There are several
styles of fishing varying on the time of year and species of fish.
No experience is needed for any of these methods. It is all learned
with expert instruction from Derek in a short amount of time.
FREE DRIFTING:
This style of fishing is done either out of the Alumaweld jet
boat or from the Lavro Drift boat. It is a very productive way of
fishing with ultra light tackle and very small bait. You will be
casting and drifting your baits through the holes covering miles of
river. This method is very productive in catching Summer Run
Steelhead, Winter Run Steelhead, Fall Chinook and Silver Salmon.
TROLLING:
This style of fishing is mainly done while fishing Buoy 10 and the
Lower Columbia River for Fall Chinook and Coho Salmon. The gear is
still considered light tackle with 8’6” and 10’6” G-Loomis fishing
rods with 30lb. test line. The King Salmon range from the 20lb. to
40lb class with even a 50lb fish hooked annually. We will be
trolling herring, anchovies, and Spinners for these brutes.
HOVER FISHING:
This type of fishing is done with light tackle and is an
incredible way to catch Fall King Salmon and Spring Chinook. We will
be fishing the deep holes and hard current seams for these fish. It
truly is a relaxing day of fishing with lots of action. When that
King Salmon bites you better hang on to that rod because he isn’t
happy with the result when you pull back on that rod! These Kings
average 18 to 35 pounds.
BACK BOUNCING:
This style of fishing is done for Spring Chinook and Fall
Chinook on the Lewis and Cowlitz Rivers. When this method is used we
are looking for the truly aggressive biting fish. We will be fishing
our baits in heavy flowing water either very shallow or deep
depending on where the fish are traveling. When you get that bite it
is very hard and very aggressive. To feel the bite is truly amazing!
It is a very active style of fishing and can be learned in a short
amount of time.
BACK TROLLING:
Back trolling is
used for all species of Salmon and Steelhead. It is a very relaxing
method while fishing for all of the species of Salmon and Steelhead.
We will stagger our baits or plugs at a certain distance behind the
boat and slowly slide down river using the auto pilot for precision
placement of the plugs or bait. There can be multiple hook-ups at
the same time when you find a school of aggressive fish!
These are just some
of the popular methods that Screamin’ Reels Guide Service uses to
catch the elusive Steelhead and fierce Salmon. Remember no
experience is needed with any of these methods for Derek will teach
you on your personal guided trip. He has a vast knowledge and years
of experience on every river system he fishes.
